Colonno is positioned at the feet of Costone Mountain, between Argegno and Ossuccio, in an area called "Zoca de l'oli", or basin of the oil, because the lake's water is generally smooth as the oil. The characteristic small town, of ancient origins, it is crossed by the stream Valley of Sala and in the Middle Ages it belonged to the Parish of the island Comacina.
