Name of the wind
When and how they manifest
BREVA blows from south to north (from Porto Ceresio it moves the waters down to the Monté Brè, Gandria and Agno) it usually gets up in the morning at 10 and calms down around 6 pm. Always good weather on the lake
CARONASCA
blows from west to north-east (it leaves the locality Carona towards Campione). Thunderstorm wind until the storm breaks. It calms down with the onset of rain. It is dangerous for boats that have to pass under the Melide 4 bridge
PORLEZZINA blows from east to west (from Porlezza to Paradiso) and marks temporal in the parts of Chiavenna, Sondrio and Lake of Como
TRAMONTANA
blows towards the sunset, coming down from the mountains that surround the lake. It is not dangerous, but it complicates boats mooring to the docks
PONTETRESA blows from west to east (it leaves the Gulf of Ponte Tresa / Laveno). It is a stormy wind that can create a lot of difficulties for recreation navigation
MARINO
blows from south to north-west (from Capolago in the direction of Melide and from Porto Ceresio to Agno) and sometimes can reach 120km/h forming high waves creating considerable difficulties for navigation
VENTO DEL NORD
blows from north to south (it descends from Monte Baro respectively from Piana del Vedeggio towards Porto Ceresio) and it can reach peaks of 90/100 km/h; it is usually freezing cold wind
TIVANO blows from south-east to north-east (it descends from Osteno towards the slopes of Monte Brè). Stormy wind caused by the meeting of various air currents. It forms typical semicircle eddies and raises the water as fine dust up to 50/100 meters high (visible from Gandria, Oria, San Mamete). Not too frequent but which can also put large boats in difficulty
